We've had feedback from users that it's quite annoying when something breaks - it can leave days or weeks before they're back up again! Worth noting - PiCopter 4.0 has only made it to friends and family at this point, for test-flights and prototype feedback.TweetFollow usE-mail
Recently, we got our hands on the Pi Zero W, that was just released today! We've tried incorporating it into PiCopter, and while it makes for a brilliant addition, it's just adding 0.5g with no real effect.
Why, you may ask. It's because we need a decent range WiFi unit. With our measurements and flight-tests, we've managed to get 15m range from controller to the drone. Not good enough, we need bigger antennas...TweetFollow usE-mail

You might have read about our record player. If you've got a record player, you may need speakers... Here's our take on speakers:

Following data collected by over 100 PiCopter-crashes we internally and the community has done, we've decided to make a complete overhaul of PiCopters design. More data-driven means we're increasing sturdiness, reducing lateral weight and increasing battery power.
In our Research & Development department, we've started to look at how to reduce our reliance at iPhones and Androids being fully charged and stable. Further to this, we want to reduce latency, meaning you can truly fly FPV racing. We'll see if this'll be a part of the next public release.TweetFollow usE-mail
We got the privelige to present at Sutton Grammar School. In the morning, we were building PiCopter drones with 9 students, aged 12 - 14. They did all the building.
Meanwhile, the 3D-printer was ticking along, making spare parts. Our aim of the session was to build and crash the drones!
In the afternoon, we exhibited PICopter in the Big Bang Day of Sutton Grammar School. Check out a short clip of what we did:
Attending the inaugural IO collective, PiCopter founder Marten was tasked with bringing PiCopter along for some shooting.
Have a look at us recording a crash at the Farakla Estate in southern Greece here:
