Here at PiCopter, we build working prototypes, not finished products. Fast iterations, community-driven process, and latest technology. With some well needed modesty, we’re enabling you to start making, and stop consuming.
Because you make it into what you need
Having played with and built radio-controlled airplanes, helicopters, cars and drones since the early 2000nds, founder Marten got frustrated with the drone market. All these ready-made devices you can buy at extortionate prices. Further to this, unless you’re a professional film-maker or photographer, these drones will soon be shelved because they’re not taking you anywhere. These extraordinary devices with so much potential and brilliant engineering behind it, are sold as a readily packaged gimmick. Crash it, and you’re better off getting a new one.
Upon tinkering with the Raspberry Pi, Marten took on the challenge was to make it fly. In that journey, so much was learnt that Marten wanted to package it. After many drone-lectures in schools, hackathons with 8 - 15 year olds, it was clear that this little PiCopter had a tremendous lesson to teach.
Making Makers. It’s that simple. But how do we do that?
By taking the latest and most exciting products, creating a blueprint, and making that accessible to the general public.
If we made our own products instead of consuming, wouldn’t that be great?
Heck, with all the automation humanity is going through, there’s plenty of time to spare, either for Social Media, or making our own things.
Everything we do is published under Creative Commons licenses, which means you can make your own, sell it.
We publish our stuff on GitHub, Thingiverse and right here!
In our community, we have some of the best drone-builders out there. We share events, drone meet-ups, challenges and our own hacks and inventions.COME JOIN US
